Washington business license renewal dates, fees, and checklist.

Washington does not use one universal business-license renewal date. For Business Licensing Service endorsements, use the expiration date printed on the license and renew before it expires.

Answer first

What to know now.

Washington does not have one universal calendar renewal date for every business license. If your Business License includes state or city endorsements handled through the Business Licensing Service, most are renewed annually and are due by the expiration date printed on the license or beside the individual endorsement. The Department of Revenue says you can renew up to two months before that date and sends a courtesy reminder about one month before expiration, but the printed expiration date remains the deadline even if the reminder is not received.

Verified facts

Use the official source for the final check.

  • Who renews annually: Business licenses with state or city endorsements available through the Washington Business Licensing Service generally require annual renewal.
  • Renewal deadline: Renew by the expiration date printed on the Business License. If there are multiple endorsements, the license may show multiple expiration dates.
  • How early you can renew: The Department of Revenue says a Business License can be renewed up to two months before the printed expiration date.
  • Courtesy reminder: Business Licensing Service sends a courtesy renewal reminder about one month before expiration, but renewal is still due by the printed expiration date if the reminder is not received.
  • Processing fee: The annual renewal processing fee is $5 per business location, in addition to applicable state, city, county, or other endorsement fees.
  • Late renewal: Late renewals can be charged a delinquency fee of up to $150 per business location. Other regulatory agencies can impose additional penalties or cancel individual licenses for nonrenewal.
  • Licenses outside Business Licensing Service: Licenses handled by another agency, such as certain contractor, cosmetology, or daycare licenses, follow that agency's renewal process rather than the Business Licensing Service workflow.

Renewal workflow

Turn the requirement into a repeatable checklist.

  1. Step 1

Read the expiration date in the upper-right area of the Business License and check each endorsement for a separate expiration date.

  2. Step 2

Confirm that the endorsement is handled through the Washington Business Licensing Service. If another regulatory agency issued the license, use that agency's renewal process instead.

  3. Step 3

Beginning up to two months before expiration, log in to My DOR and review the Renewal action items for the business and location.

  4. Step 4

Submit all required renewal information and documents and pay the $5 processing fee plus the applicable endorsement fees before the printed expiration date.

  5. Step 5

After processing, save or print the renewed license from My DOR and create the next reminder based on the new printed expiration date rather than assuming a fixed statewide date.
